Top 5 Winter Lipsticks

Since its nearly Christmas (how fast is Christmas flying in?) I thought it would be a good time with all the nights out coming up to write up a blog post on my favourite winter lip sticks . These lipsticks have different finishes and are very suitable for Christmas/New Years nights out .

The most classic red lipstick I have ever come across . Matte perfection .

The most subtle lipstick of them all . Very moisturising and not your typical nude .

A dupe for the Mac lipstick in Rebel . A pink/purple lipstick with a matte finish ,very inexpensive .

When I think winter dramatic lipsticks I think of this one . Matte finish .

Brown lipstick is in at the moment with Kylie Jenner's lip kit that was recently released and sold out in 30 seconds . Although this is more glossy you could apply some tissue over the top of it and powder over the top of the tissue with some translucent powder to give it a matte finish . Easier to get your hands on then the Kylie Jenner lip kit and cheaper .

On another note the lighting today was all over the place one minute it was bright the next minute it was dark & cloudy again . Hence why the pictures are all different lighting .

Thank you for reading & hope you all have a lovely week .

Cheaper Alternative : Smashbox Contour Palette

I must say I am a big fan of the Smashbox brand , but I am also a fan of a bargain just like most of us . When I seen this little contour palette that resembles the Smashbox contour palette an awful lot in Penney's for €4 I was very eager to try it to see if it was any way up to the standard of my favourite contour palette .

Penney's/Primark have really raised there game in the make up department I really love there Ps lip pencils , individual eyelashes, brushes and liquid lipsticks .

There was a tester of the contour palette sitting out on the shelf and when I swatched it I wasn't very impressed but decided to give it a proper try and compare it to the Smashbox one .

Packaging
Both contour kits are in nice compact cases with a mirror and a guideline on where to apply the powders too . Handy for your handbag . The Penney's packaging is actually sturdier then the Smashbox case though .

Penney's : 1   Smashbox : 0

Left Brush : Penney's     Right Brush : Smashbox
Brushes
Both brushes are the same size , the bristles on the Penney's brush is softer then the Smashbox one , but the Smashbox brush has a nice angle to it , its more durable and blends out contour a little better .

Penney's : 0    Smashbox : 1

Left Side : Smashbox       Right Side : Penney's

Pigmentation
The Penney's lightest powder is more pigmented then the Smash box one . The middle powder in the both palettes are completely different the Smashbox one is a bronzer and the Penney's one is a shimmery highlighter. The contour colour in the Smashbox palette is cool toned and the Penney's one is a mixture between the Smashbox bronzer and contour colours . I actually prefer the Penney's shade better . Over all the pigmentation is better in the Smashbox Palette .

Penney's : 0   Smashbox : 1

Consistency
The Smashbox one is a little creamier in consistency where as the Penney's one is very powdery .

Penney's : 0 Smashbox : 1

Look
I actually like the Penney's contour better . Although I think the middle highlighter is a waste of space , I would preferred a bronzer like the Smashbox one . But I am going to go with Penney's on this one . Its a little more warmer without being too warm .

Penney's : 1  Smashbox : 0

Final Verdict :
Penney's : 2/5  Smashbox : 3/5

So the Smashbox palette won by a point , although I think the fact that the Penney's palette is €4 would make it a tie . If your buying a gift for someone or like higher end products then I would go for the Smashbox one but if your just buying it for yourself go for this one and save yourself €40 .

Thanks for reading and I hope you found this somewhat helpful.
If you would like to see more of these types of blog posts let me know and I will try find more dupes to high end products .

Serozinc La Roche Posay Review

I have written small pieces in hauls and favourite about this product but thought it deserved its own blog post

I first bought it because the beauty world was raving about it and recommend picking it up if you where in France because at the time it was hard to get your hands on in Ireland .

I wrote about it when I first got it and I didn't think I was going to be a fan and didn't get the hype .

After giving it a proper go I have went through two of them . I like having one in my kit also .

What it basically is is a toning zinc sulphate solution  mist for your face (&body) . Its great for applying before makeup because it gives you a nice canvas to work on . Kills bacteria , removes any access oils on the skin , soothes razor burns or any other irritation on the skin and acts as a toner also . Got to love multipurpose products . Its also nice to spray over make up to freshen up .

Its one of those products like Vaseline or Sudocrem that will come in handy for a multitude of things .

Available to purchase : Here retailing at €11 .

Thanks For Reading, my next blog post will be on a expensive contour kit and a cheaper alternative so keep an eye out for that .

1950s Hollywood Glamour - Make Up Tutorial

Modern twist on a Marilyn Monroe 1950s inspired make up .  A very classic look that will suit everyone and never dates  . Its like the little black dress of the make up world , always a safe bet .

Lets jump straight into the tutorial

Eyes & Eyebrows

Step 1 : Starting off with the eyes as usual so any fall out from the eyeshadow can be easily removed without wrecking the make up . I primed the eyelids with a white jumbo pencil .

Step 2 : Set the eyelid primer in place with some cream eyeshadow .

Step 3 : With a fluffy blending brush blend a light orange/brown colour into the out corners of your eyes  .

Step 4 : With a smaller detailer brush apply a darker brown into the very corner of your eyelid in a 'v' shape .

Step 5 : Blend out any harsh edges with an eyeshadow blending brush .

Step 6 : Blend some of the soft brown eyeshadow underneath your bottom lash line also.

Step 7 : Line your waterline with a white eye pencil . This little trick helps the eyes to appear bigger and brighter .

Step 8 : Now on to the fun part ... winged eyeliner . I have a detailed winged eyeliner blog post here . But basically I start with some gel eyeliner and a thin brush create the outer part of the wing first to know my angle . I then I go to the inner corner of my eye and join the line to the wing I created .

Step 9 : Apply Mascara .

Step 10 : I then applied lashes , this step is optional . I love fuller looking lashes for special occasions like this so I applied one of my favourite lashes , Ardell Demi wispies . Duo glue was the adhesive I used .

Step 11 : I brushed her eyebrows up then across to get them in shape I then applied a small bit of Anastasia Beverly Hills dipbrow pomade in blonde with an angled brush starting at the outer part of her eyebrow working my way in . With this product a little goes a long way so I used light strokes . To keep her eyebrows in place I applied some clear mascara over the top of them .

Skin

Step 12 : I wiped away any fall out from the eyeshadow then applied some Serozinc from La Roche Posay to a cotton pad an applied it to her face . This preps the skin nicely for make up application.

Step 13 : I applied some illuminator before foundation to give a nice healthy appearance to the skin and to give some moisture to the skin .

Step 14 : I pumped out so foundation onto my palette an applied it to the skin using a stippling brush .

Step 15 : I applied some concealer under her eyes then applied loads of powder on top and left it to bake. I applied some concealer under her eyebrows also to make them more defined .

Step 16 : I went in with contouring sticks , contouring her temples , under her cheekbones, sides of her nose and jawline . I blended them out with a damp beauty blender .

Step 17 : I then powdered her skin to keep it matte and to keep everything in place with a translucent powder . With a clean powder brush I dusted away any excess powder from her under eyes .

Step 18 : I then went over the places I cream contoured and powder contoured for a more dramatic effect  .

Step 19 : I applied some highlighter to the tip of her cupids bow , nose and the tops of her cheekbones .

Lips

Step 20 : I applied some red lip liner .

Step 21 : Using a small lip brush I applied red lipstick to her lips .

Lastly I set her face with some setting spray to insure it lasted all night .

Thoughts On Fake Make-Up

Something I have wanted to write about for a while now is 'fake make up ' . The kind of make up you would find on websites like 'Alliexpress' , cheap make up that copies well known make up brands products .

The word 'dupe' is used a lot by beauty bloggers but this is different , a dupe is a product that are not trying to exactly copy another make up products. They have there own  name , own packaging and just happen to be similar and cheaper then and expensive brands products .

I just want to state I am not talking about brands like 'Maybelline' or 'Loreal' from the chemist . I am talking about those fake designer make up products that claim they are authentic . When buying make up quality really is the main thing .If your buying mac at a market stall I can almost guarantee its fake . Mac only sell there products in there stores and there online website . If you see there make up anywhere else your not guaranteed its authentic .

I also see a lot of fake real technique brushes online . Real technique brushes for the quality are reasonably priced.

What I am trying to say here is save up and buy the real thing instead of buying a lot of bad quality eye shadow just because it says 'Mac' on it .

Quality over Quantity .

Beauty Products I've Been Loving

I don't write monthly favourites a lot because I can find they can get a little repetitive . Some months I have no new favourites to show and others I have tons . I haven't done one in a while so I thought I would write one about my new favourites .

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

Believe it or not this is my first full size bottle of the Urban Decay setting spray. Its  a product I have always wanted but never got round to buying it . After applying your make up (you  can even apply it before ) close your eyes hold the bottle arms length distance from your face and spray . I usually spray it four times altogether once in each area my forehead , chin , left cheek and right cheek. I usually only use this on clients and on myself if its a special occasion . It is on the expensive side of the setting sprays so I wouldn't go spraying it all over the place.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Concealer

Full coverage but lightweight ? Not two words that usually go together but this concealer really is both of those descriptions. It has a small flexible wand that make the concealer easy to apply to the skin . Once applied to the skin I blend it out with a brush or my finger.

Make Up Forever HD Foundation

Full in depth review : Click Here . Just an amazing foundation . Matte without being to flat on the skin and invisible on the skin .Light to medium that could be worked with for a full coverage .

Mac Ruby Roo Lipstick & Lip liner

Red lips are such a classic . I think 1950s when I see a red lip .Ruby woo is that classic matte red that you would imagine Marilynn Monroe wearing .

Cocoa Brown 1 hour Tan Mousse

I have been really white this year from not going on a sun holiday and Ireland being rainy so I decided I might as well fake it . Also its much more safer for your skin then laying out in the sun anyway . I would begrudge spending big money on a bottle of tan that would only last me three/four uses so I always try find a good bargain. After hearing everyone rave about this tan I thought it was about time to see what all the fuss is about and oh my .. I wish I done it sooner . The business woman behind it all is Irish too , which makes me love it even more . Love seeing Irish women(and men) do well for themselves .

Crown Round Blender Make up Brush

I have had this brush for years its one of those brushes I will be obsessed with for a month then forget about it for a month then be obsessed with it again . Its good for under eye concealer , buffing in foundation around the nose and chin , contouring , highlighting and even blending out eyelid primer .

Make Up Forever HD Foundation - Review

Why did I ever stray from this foundation is the question I'm asking myself? I bought make up forever HD foundation a few years ago at Imats London . I loved make up at the time but I don't think I fully appreciated this foundation . After trying and testing so many foundations from high end to low end , this foundation comes out as one of my favourites .

Two disappointments lately where the Smashbox and Chanel foundation that I splurged out on that didn't quite have the quality that I thought there hefty price tag deserved . This foundation although expensive is worth every single Penney .

Longevity
This foundation lasts so well . I will apply it early in the morning and it will still be perfect till night time . Even if I go to the gym with this on it will still be half decent on my face when I am finished  . Most other foundations end up disappearing .

Consistency
I would say its the perfect balance between thick and liquidy . Its the perfect in-between balance of Mac studio fix to Chanel aqua foundation .

Finish
The finish it leaves on the skin is matte . Its so seamless and really looks airbrushed . Its made for HD television so its made to last well under lights , cameras and be undetectable on the skin .

Coverage
Its a light to medium coverage foundation but could be worked with to create a full coverage . With two pumps you will achieve a nice natural complexion and just build it up for the look you desire .

Colour Range
Make up forever have such a good colour range with 26 different skin tones ranging from pale to dark .

Price And Where You Can Purchase It
Price wise its on the expensive side , but unlike some expensive foundations I can honestly say its worth every penny . You can buy it on the Make Up Forever website or in a Make Up Forever shop . I bought mine on Guru Make up Emporium  for £29 .

The brand has and Ultra HD foundation out as well now that I would love to try . Anyone in the market for a flawless in real life and on camera foundation , this is it . An old reliable .

Creepy Old Woman - Halloween Make up Tutorial

Hey everyone ! Todays make up isn't so glamorous but its Halloween , its supposed to be scary .This look is easy enough to achieve just time consuming . I was inspired by the scary looking woman from the horror film 'Drag me to hell' and the old woman in the film 'shutter island' .

To achieve this look it requires lots of weird facial expressions and stretching your face so the latex will create wrinkles. Most Halloween shops stock liquid latex or you could order it online from : FaceFx .The grease paints I used were from Kryolan and the contour stick I used at the beginning of the video was from Kiko cosmetics .

Contact lenses really add something special to any Halloween make up look and this one is from an Irish website : Costumeshop.ie . You get two in a pack , but I thought wearing just one looked a little creepier .

If you have never worn liquid latex before I recommend doing a patch test 24hr prior by applying a little behind your ear or the crease of your arm . If there is any irritation, itchiness or redness  , you could be allergic so I wouldn't recommend using it .

Some tips when using liquid latex :
- Don't get it on your clothes , it wouldn't come off !
- Try apply a good few layers , it makes it easier to peel off .
- Don't apply it with any good quality make up brushes , it will wreck the brush . I usually use cheap   art brushes or a latex sponge .
- Dry the latex with a hairdryer then powder over it to make it matte . If you don't powder over the latex it will look really shiny .
- Repeat latex - dry - powder as many times as you like until you get the look desired .

Hope you all enjoy this tutorial , I will try create a more glamorous Halloween look next . I felt like Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls when she walks into the party and she's dressed as a zombie bride and everyone else is dressed as a bunny or some sort of cute animal , haha .

If you have any questions or make up looks you would like to see , comment below and I will get back to you .

Easy Sugar Skull Tutorial

Easy , quick and cheap , three words we all love to hear ! Well here's my first Halloween video tutorial and its all three of these things . All you need is some face paint and 15 minutes .

Water activated paints used to achieve this look are from the Wolfe Fx Hydrocolor 12 colour Palette .

I only did one half of my face I was going to do my whole face but the last few years I have noticed
a lot of people seem to like these half face Halloween make up looks . If you wanted your full face like a sugar skull you could always just duplicate the sugar skull side .

Its one of those looks where you could easily add your own twist too , different colours or different patterns . I kept my design pretty simple and used only white , black , purple and pink face paints .

If you are thinking of dressing up as a sugar skull for Halloween you could wear a dress and flower crown to match the look .

Another blog post will be up this week , hope you found this video helpful and thanks for watching .

What Halloween make up look do you want to see me recreate next ?

Halloween Series : Where I Buy My Special Effects Make up

If your looking to up your level this Halloween with your costume , the local Halloween shops usually just have the basic special effects make up from un known brands costume shop brands. Some of them are decent and do the job but if you want good quality make up then theses two websites are your best bet . Really there's only two Irish Website FaceFXMakeupSupplies.ie and American website CameraReadyCosmetics.com that I order from  . Both websites of a high standard , great customer service and fast , decants priced delivery .

I go on FaceFx first because there and Irish Business , supporting local and all that then if they don't have a product I will go on Camera Ready Cosmetics . Also it makes more sense getting it from FaceFx if they have it because its in euro and takes like two days to deliver . They have a wide range of products including all the basic products liquid latex ,  spirit gum , fx wax , bald caps etc. . They stock brands like Kryolan , Ben Nye , Graftobian and Wolfe Fx .

Camera Ready cosmetics takes longer shipping for Irish buyers , usually takes around ten days which is still really good considering its the opposite side of the world . They have a huge selection on make up from spfx , body painting and airbrushing .

I will have Halloween special effects make up blogpost/videos up from now till Halloween . First one already recorded and ready to be uploaded . That will included mostly tutorials and possibly a blog post on a basic Halloween make up kit .  This would be for people that are really interest in Halloween make up .

Is there any Halloween look you want to see me recreate ? If so comment below or message me on my Facebook page  . I gladly take on any suggestions .

How Long Should You Keep Your Make Up ?

Yep if you didn't already know , make up doesn't last forever . Just like food with a longer use by date thankfully .You probably have noticed this little image on products for years some of you may already know this tells you how long a product can be used for . The products pictured below have 12M written on them which means 12 months . Its not like the product will go mouldy or anything after 12 months but it might not be up to its usual standard either . It could possibly separate in the bottle or irritate your skin . Its on most beauty products not just make up so when your clearing out your drawers you can know what to throw out now . Keep in mind this 'use by date' is from the first time you open the product . Mascaras generally have a shorter life span where as powders usually last longer .

Autumn/Winter Make up Tutorial will be uploaded the start of next week then its all Halloween Special Effects up to Halloween . Just waiting on more stuff to arrive . If you have any Halloween make up suggestions for me to create you can message me or comment below .

Cut Crease Video Tutorial

Who doesn't love a good cut crease ? I recorded this video a while back but never got round to editing it but after finding a picture of the cut crease the last day I decided to go ahead , edit the video and upload it . No joke uploading it took a full day , the internet in the countryside in Ireland is really slow.

This cut crease is very wearable for a night out , I used browns and cream because I wanted it more Hollywood glamour and not borderline drag (as much as I love how skilful drag queens are at make up) .

With a cut crease you want it blended but not completely blended out , you want to see the 'cut' . I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Dark Brown (originally meant for your eyebrows ) first then started blending it out with a brown eyeshadow  ,I then started building up the colour my repeating this step a few times. To make the cut more defined I apply concealer below the cut crease then packed on some cream eyeshadow to set it .

Check back next week for and exciting video . Going to start getting into videos more because there easier to recreate then reading a step by step , so please subscribe to my Youtube channel to keep up to date .  Hope you all have enjoyed reading .Have a nice week everyone .

Have you ever tried a cut crease ?

Best Face Primer ? Men's Shaving Balm ?

'Why the heck are you buying that Alannah ?' is the question I got from my friend(and everyone else) while buying this in Superdrug . Well what if I told you it was an amazing face primer , yes you read that right, FACE PRIMER!

I was watching one of Nikkie Tutorial's Youtube videos a while back where she mentioned that this Nivea Men post shaving balm worked really well as a primer . I recently decided to put it to the test .

One of the main ingredients in this product is glycerine which makes things have that kind of tacky sticky feel so this really helps your make up stick and stay in place . When you initially pour some of the product out the consistency is really liquidy so you don't need very much for your whole face . I pat it into my skin then leave it for around five minutes so it becomes less tacky in the way it feels . The manly smells goes away once the balm is dried in so don't worry about going around smelling like a man . The consistency is more of a liquidy serum texture rather then a balm/ moisturiser texture .

I personally never have really any serious problems with my foundation lasting power but I know with this product that my foundation will look the same even after 10 hours wear .

So if you have any man in your life , steal there nivea men shaving balm and your make up  will stay put all night .

Have you tried this product as a primer yet ?

Kiko 208 Water Eyeshadow
I brought this eyeshadow because apparently its a dupe for the sought after mac highlighter in whisper of gilt . This highlighter/eyeshadow is a light gold/champagne colour . It glides on as a highlighter beautifully and you can pack it on the eyes with a damp eyeshadow brush for and intense pigmented look . In a small compact convenient case with a little mirror. Great product for such good value . This looks best as a highlighter on tanned or fake tanned skin . Less worn picture of this product on my Instagram with a swatch (instagram - alannahharriganmua) .

Smashbox Photo Finish Eyelid Primer
Slightly conceals the pigmentation on my eyes , makes my eyeshadow more vibrant , makes the eyeshadow applied on top last all day without creasing . Good essential beauty product that everyone should have in there make up bag .

Maybelline The Eraser Perfect & Cover Concealer
I remember when this product came out I was very sceptical because of the applicator on top , which isn't very hygienic . I get really dark under eye circles sometime so I like to use a little bit of this under my eyes and it conceals the circles really well and stays put all day . If you apply too much under your eyes it will crease,  so don't go overboard . This product would work well for spots too but with the applicator on top its not really suitable for spots because it would just spread them to other places on your face .  The product inside is great but the applicator is the only downside.

 Smashbox Contour Kit

I mentioned this as one of my favourite contouring products in my 'How To : Highlighting and Contouring ' blog post . Its compact , comes with a mirror , guidelines on how to use it , an angled contouring brush and three powders . There is a contouring powder , highlighting powder and a bronzing powder . The powders easily blend out on the skin and don't visibly sit on top of the skin like some powders .
